Personal profile and educational background
Married and father of four, Mario Ruiz-Tagle holds a degree in Legal and Social Sciences from the University Diego Portales in Santiago, Chile and a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from Universidade Pontifícia Católica, Chile.
He speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
Experience in energy sector
In 1996 he was Legal Counsel of Sociedade Ibero-Americana de Energia Ibener S.A., where the main purpose was the execution and construction of Peuchén and Mampil hydro power plants. In 1999 he assumed the position of Management and Finance Manager at Ibero-Americana de Energia IBENER S.A., having as main task the construction and preparation of the company for the operation phase of the Plants. Other important activity in this period is the negotiation and sale of energy, through the execution of agreements with regulated customers (Distributors) and Free Customers (Industrial Customers), when he served as Deputy Director of Sociedade Ibero-Americana de Energia Ibener S.A., also in the period between 1996 and 1999. After that, in 2000, he was appointed General Manager of Iberoamericana da Energia Ibener S.A.
In 2002 he began his career at the Iberdrola Group with his appointment as Director of Institutional Relations at Iberdrola Energia do Brasil Ltda, until 2004, when he became Business Director Brazil – Chile of the Latin American Direction of Iberdrola S.A., and from 2010 he started as Country Manager at Iberdrola Brasil S.A., position held by him until being appointed as CEO of Grupo Neoenergia in 2017, position currently held by him.
Mario Ruiz-Tagle was also a member of the Board of Directors of Neoenergia and of Neoenergia Group subsidiaries, he served as Deputy Director of Sociedade Inversora Elétrica Andina S.A. on behalf of Iberdrola Energia S.A. during the period from October 1999 to August 2000, and also served as Director of Empresa de Serviços Sanitários de Los Lagos Essal S.A., also representing Iberdrola Energia S.A. and Chairman of the Board from 2006 to 2008.
Experience in other companies
He worked at the law firm Schaerer, Díaz, Mandujano e Asociados, performing activities related to labor consultancy for companies, including Companhia Telefônica do Chile, current Telefônica. He also served as a law graduate at the National Truth and Reconciliation Commission, in the Executive Secretary's office by lawyer Jorge Correa Sutil.
He also served as a lawyer at the Pacheco e Figueroa Associados Office, advising companies on commercial, labor, tax and corporate matters, and also served as Legislative and Administrative Secretary of Senator Máximo Pacheco Gómez, coordinating the legislative work in the various commissions where the Senator worked, with a highlight fo the Constitution, Legislation and Justice commissions and the Environment Commission. Also, during this period, he was responsible for the offices in Santiago, Talca and Curico, in addition to organizing activities with the community at the Provincial and Community level.
He was Legal Counsel at Madeiras Cóndor S.A., a company focused on the exploration and export of forest products. The most outstanding activity in this period is the work done within the Group's companies aimed at structuring and developing the Duqueco River Hydro Power Exploration Project, comprising the construction of two hydro power plants, called Peuchén and Mampil, with an installed capacity of 124 MW . He was also Director of Madeiras Cóndor S.A. and Florestal Comaco S.A. from January 1995 to September 1996.
