Comenzamos un nuevo año con grandes desafíos en el contexto internacional que nos afectan singularmente. Conflictos bélicos en nuestra frontera y en el Medio Oriente que, lejos de resolverse, parece que se mantienen en el horizonte, y en los que la Unión Europea busca ejercer el rol internacional que nos corresponde. Con elecciones en los próximos meses y grandes objetivos aún por consolidar en su territorio, como son las transiciones digital, verde y social, la Unión Europea debe encontrar en el exterior alianzas con las regiones más afines por sus valores y prioridades para desarrollar asociaciones estratégicas. América Latina y el Caribe es una de ellas, quizás la más importante.

Acaba de terminar la presidencia española del Consejo de la Unión, que comenzó con la celebración de la Cumbre de jefes de Estado UE-CELAC en el mes de julio en Bruselas con una clara apuesta por estrechar las relaciones entre estas dos grandes áreas. La aprobación de la Agenda Global Gateway marca un camino por recorrer y todo el esfuerzo que, desde las instituciones europeas, se ha venido realizando en estos últimos meses ha de continuar y fortalecerse.

En esta línea, se celebra el próximo 25 de enero una nueva edición del seminario que, con vocación anual, organiza la Fundación Euroamérica junto a la Asamblea EuroLat en la sede del Parlamento Europeo en Bruselas. En una jornada de tarde y bajo el título “Asociación estratégica de la UE con América Latina y el Caribe para afrontar las transiciones digital, verde y social. Una ruta por recorrer”, se analizarán estas relaciones por expertos de las instituciones europeas y de ALyC y de empresas de ambos lados del Atlántico.

We start the new year with significant international challenges that uniquely affect us. Military conflicts on our border and in the Middle East, far from being resolved, seem to remain on the horizon, and the European Union seeks to exercise a role on the international stage that befits it. With elections in the coming months and major objectives that remain to be achieved, such as the digital, green, and social transitions, the European Union must find external alliances and develop strategic partnerships with the regions most aligned with its values and priorities. Latin America and the Caribbean is one of these regions, and is perhaps the most important.

The Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union has just ended; it began with the EU-CELAC Summit of Heads of State held in July in Brussels – a clear commitment to the strengthening of bi-regional relations. The adoption of the Global Gateway Agenda marked the way forward, and all the efforts in recent months on behalf of the European institutions must continue and be strengthened.

In this context, on January 25th, the Euroamerica Foundation together with the EuroLat Assembly is organising a new edition of the annual high-level seminar at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels. In the afternoon session titled ‘Strategic partnership of the European Union with Latin America and the Caribbean to address the digital, green and social transitions. The way forward.’ experts from European institutions, from Latin America and the Caribbean, and from companies from both sides of the Atlantic will be analysing the relations between these two regions.
